The National Centre for Writing (NCW), supported by LTI Korea, is now accepting applications for the Korean strand of its Emerging Translator Mentorships Programme 2026/27. This year's Korean mentor is Clare Richards.
Now in its seventeenth year, the ETM programme pairs emerging translators with experienced mentors for a six-month period of practical, project-based mentoring, covering everything from translation craft to navigating contracts, deadlines, and the publishing industry.
- Period: October 2026–March 2027, including in-person meetings at London Book Fair (15–18 March 2027) and a final digital showcase (30 March 2027)
- Eligibility: Open to emerging translators into English who have published no more than one full-length literary translation. MFA/MA translation students may apply; the translator need not live in the UK
- Support provided by LTI Korea: £800 stipend, plus £300 toward London Book Fair expenses if attending; one year's membership of the Society of Authors/Translators Association
- Required materials: Covering letter, CV, one-page sample book proposal, a sample translation (up to 2,000 words of prose or 100 lines of poetry/drama) with source text, and a short equality, diversity and inclusion survey. The use of AI in any part of the application is not permitted and will render it ineligible.
- Deadline: 11:59pm BST, Monday 24 August 2026
- Results announced: By Monday 14 September 2026
