Applications Invited for the 2026 ALTA Emerging Translator Mentorship Program
The American Literary Translators Association (ALTA), in partnership with LTI Korea, is pleased to announce that applications for the 2026 Emerging Translator Mentorship Program are now open. This program is designed to facilitate a close working relationship between an experienced translator and an emerging translator on a specific literary project.
We are delighted to offer two distinct mentorships for Korean-to-English translation, sponsored by LTI Korea:
* Korean Prose with Janet Hong
* Korean Poetry with Jack Jung
This one-year mentorship provides emerging translators with a unique opportunity to refine their craft and advance their careers. Mentees will receive one-on-one guidance on a project of their choosing and are expected to meet with their mentors at least six times over the first nine months.
In addition to personalized support, mentees will benefit from several key opportunities:
* Conference Participation: Mentees will present their work at a reading during the annual ALTA conference. They will receive complimentary conference registration and a $1,500 stipend to help cover travel and accommodation costs.
* Publication Opportunity: Mentees will be invited to submit their work to ALTA’s “First Look” program for consideration by participating publishers.
The application deadline is November 30, 2025, at 11:59 PM PT.
